Looking for Master Students in CS/Robotics to work on Human-Robot Interaction projects during the Summer 2024.

The Robot Studio, a research lab led by Prof. Patricia Alves-Oliveira, is looking for Master Students in CS/Robotics to work on Human-Robot Interaction projects during the Summer 2024.

Project 1: Creativity and Robotics

Goal: Create a robot that makes humans more creative. This work involves using Large Language Models (LLMs) to create interactions between a robot and a human that lead to creativity increases.

Preferred Skills: Experience in programming languages like Python or C/C++ and generative AI and LLMs.

Likely Majors/Minors: CS, EECS, ROB

Project 2: Long-Term Relationships with Social Robots

Goal: Analyse how people form relationships with robots. This work involved extracting and analyzing social media posts (post content: texts, images, videos, reactions) about how people interact with the robots they live with.

Preferred Skills: Experience in data structures, data extraction, data analysis, and sentiment analysis. Preference for students who have worked with social media data (Instagram, Facebook, etc). Experience in programming languages like Python or C/C++

Likely Majors/Minors: CS, ROB, EECS

Benefits:

The projects can be done for class credit or pay (hourly temp) during the Summer 2024.

Preferred students:

  • A strong interest in research related to human-robot interaction

  • Availability to read and analyze several papers over the Summer

  • Commitment to work in the Robot Studio and make progress on the research

Robot Studio is the new lab of Prof. Patricia Alves-Oliveira, situated in the Robotics Department. Robot Studio is an interdisciplinary lab that welcomes students from various disciplines.
